Take a Tour the Waterville Opera House

Welcome to Waterville, Maine. Join Jessica O'Halloran Smart and Tiffany Masse on a little tour!

We are highlighting the Waterville Opera House, and have with us Michelle Sweet, Executive Director.

The Waterville Opera House was built in 1902, so they are celebrating their 121st year. Michelle highlighted that the Waterville Opera House started as a movie house and then was dark for many years before the community theater program brought it back to life in the mid-seventies. In 2012, the Opera House underwent a massive renovation, and it brought it up to industry standards with new tech and even new dressing rooms!

They are now working on some capital improvements to sound and lightings and are committed to ensuring there is always something fun on the stage for folks to watch!

We thought it fitting to share this community highlight today because it happens to be the start of the Maine International Film Festival, which is taking place at the Opera House.

Founded in 1998, the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) is a project of the Maine Film Center. Most years, the 10 days of the festival showcase nearly 100 films, representing the best of American independent and international cinema, and spotlight some of Maine and New England’s most exciting and innovative filmmakers.
